An Easy Weekly Cleaning Routine

Thanks for SHARING!

This simple weekly cleaning routine has helped our family keep the main spaces in our home semi-tidy and picked up.

Have you noticed how some folks seem to have a special housecleaning gene, built right into their DNA?

I am not one of those people.

I love a clean, organized house, and I actually enjoy doing many of the tasks. My challenge is that there are so many fun things to do every day, and cleaning often falls to the bottom of the list.

Can you relate?

I’m going to share a tiny little tip that helps me, and maybe it will work for you, too.

I hesitate to call it a “system,” because it’s just a loose way of doing things (and is there anything more dull-sounding than a housecleaning system?)

Instead, let’s call it “Spiffing for the Queen.”

Here’s how it works:

Step #1: Pick Your Main Spaces

Here’s all you do for this tiny plan: First, choose 5 of your main spaces that you want to keep clean.

You might like to have your own bedroom be one of the spaces. You deserve a nice, tidy retreat. For the other rooms, you might choose the more “public” spaces in your home — or whatever feels important to you.

Step #2: Make a Mini Schedule

Next, assign each space one weekday. I treasure unstructured weekends, so I only do this plan during the work week.Tailor this any way you like to suit your schedule.

Here’s my actual plan, which I wrote on a little card so I wouldn’t forget. (I wish I hadn’t killed so many brain cells in my 20s.)

Step #3: Clean in 15 Minute Bursts

Set a timer, and deep clean the “space of the day” for 15 minutes. Pretend that the Queen is coming to visit, and you only have 15 minutes to transform the room before she arrives.

You can do a mini declutter while you’re cleaning everything. I’m always surprised by how much I can get done in 15 focused minutes.

More than 15 minutes and I start to get antsy. Hey, I never claimed to have a long attention…… The Pasta Queen made ricotta gnocchi on TikTok!

Sorry.

That’s it, my friends. Try to keep the spaces tidy the rest of the week. Clean your other spaces as you normally do.

By giving each room 15 minutes of deep cleaning, you may find that funny little things get and stay cleaner. In our house, for example, the knobs on our washing machine are now clean, and the top of the refrigerator is dusted.

After a couple weeks of this routine, you might only need 10 minutes of space spiffing. The Queen would be so proud!
